Red-Belly Parrots originate in the savannahs of Eastern Africa. The scientific name is Poicephalus rufiventris but they are ... "THE BEST KEPT SECRET" in the bird world!
They are about 8-9 inches (20 - 23cm) long which makes them an ideal small/medium size parrot.
They have a life span of 20 - 25 years with proper care.
They are exceptionally QUIET too!
Both sexes make fabulous pets!

Red Bellies are perfect!
Even the less colorful females have gorgeous colors!
If you look closely at the feathers you can see the slight green and orange and the females (as well as the males) have the striking 'neon' green color on the rear ends.
They are very clean birds.... easy to care for .....
CONS?
I've been asked, "What are the 'cons'?" to owning a Red Belly?" Everything has a good and bad side... and Red Belly's are no exception.... Like most parrots they can choose a 'preferred' person to interact with and may be nippy toward other people. They may also become nippy if not handled properly when young.
However with proper handling and socialization...
I truly believe these are the 'Perfect' parrot companions!
The RED belly....
Although they are called 'RED' bellies....
the belly is in fact an Orange color....

They love to play... hang upside down.... climb.... cuddle.... and they seem to thrive on laughter.

They start being CUTE right away - they don't waste any time. These little babies are just a couple weeks old ... they will be hand-fed until they are 12 - 14 weeks old and then they will be ready for their new homes.
Red Bellies are easy to care for.
Provide a nice size cage, a play area and they will be happy.
They love lots of good safe toys...
mix them up to keep life interesting for them!

seed/nuts/grains/sprouts and good wholesome fruits and veggies....

NOISE LEVEL: Excellent talking ability. Generally quiet noise level but capable of moderate loud noise.
EXTRA COMMENT: African Red Belly Parrots are an excellent small/medium parrot choice. They are tremendous clowns, easy-to-care-for and can learn to talk quite well. Their 'talk' may be a bit difficult to understand but they try very hard!
