INDIAN RINGNECK PARROT
Indian Ringneck Parakeet (Psittacula krameri)
Indian Ringneck ........Parakeet? ......or Parrot?
Indian Ringnecks are properly classified as a parakeets. They have hooked beaks, very long tails, and are relatively small. These characteristics classify them as a parakeet; however, they are indeed true parrots. I prefer to call them 'Parrots' since most people will think of a 'Budgie' when you say 'Parakeet' and are quite shocked to see a small parrot instead.
IRN
(Indian Ringneck)

IRN parrots are extremely intelligent and sensitive birds. They are keenly aware and are able to learn to speak and do tricks - if their owner has patience and time.

They have a long tail and really should be kept in a flight or very large cage but you may 'make do' with a reasonable cage if they are allowed a few hours out to exercise each day. A 'reasonable' cage is one where your bird can move around easily without banging it's tail or wings on the bars. Please avoid cluttering the cage with toys, they need room to move around.
Indian Ringnecks come in many different colors and green is the 'natural' (common) color.  Blue, green, yellow, white or other varieties ...are all stunning.

T
hey are sexually dimorphic, meaning that their sex can be determined by color and markings. At the age of maturity (approx 2 - 3 years) the males develop the black 'ring' on their neck. Females do not have this marking - although it may appear very slightly it is not nearly as prominent as the males'.
