3 cups wheat bran
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
3/4 cup water
2 tbls organic AVC (apple cider vinegar - from health food store) [use water if you don't have it]
1/2 cup raisins
2 tbls vegetable oil
2 eggs
1tbls creamed honey
Mix together. Then add:
1 1/4 cup wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
Mix thoroughly and add:
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup chopped pecans (or almonds)
1/2 cup thawed mixed veggies (or corn, or peas & carrots)
1 cup mixed seed (I used half cockatiel mix with sunflower and half pampered parrot mix)
Mix well and pour into two 8 x 8 pans lightly greased with vegetable oil. Cook at 350F for approx 20 minutes or till a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool and serve!!
Freezes very well!! Can also be used to bake GENESIS BRAN MUFFINS!!
Honey corn-birdy bread

1 1/4 cup yellow corn meal
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup of chopped walnuts (or almonds)
1/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup parrot premium seed mix (or other seed/nut mix)
3 Tbls Virgin Olive Oil
2 Tbls of honey ( I use firm honey)
1 well-beaten egg
1 cup of water (you may use pure apple juice)
Preheat oven to 350°F
Put Raisins in water to soak - set aside.
Mix dry ingredients in large bowl.
In a separate bowl mix egg, olive oil and honey. Mix well. Add water & raisins. Mix well.
Add wet mixture to the dry mixture and stir just to blend. Do not over-mix.
Pour into lightly greased (veggie oil) 8 x 8 pan. Cook for 15 - 20 mins (until toothpick comes out clean)
Cool & serve! May be stored in fridge for 2 days or frozen to keep longer. Freeze in portions to be used on those days when you are too busy to cook.
*** I make up a big bowl of cut oranges (with rind), carrot slices, corn, green unshelled pumpkin seeds, almond slices and add the Honey corn-birdy bread to it.... my birds LOVE it!
GENESIS BANANA-NUT-FLAX
(Birdie Bread they gobble up!!)
2 eggs, beaten
2 very ripe mashed bananas
1 tbls honey
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
3 tbls flax seed
Preheat oven to 350°F - lightly grease 8 x 8 pan (or line muffin cups)
In medium bowl combine eggs, banana, honey and applesauce. Mix well and set aside.
In large bowl mix flour, wheat germ, nuts and flax seed.
Stir banana mixture into flour and mix just to moisten (do not over-mix)
Pour into 8" x 8" lightly greased pan (or lined muffin cups)
Cook 25 - 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool and serve! (freezes well)
